My Dog Lost her eye today…some advice?
My little Duchess (Maltese/Pomeranian) had her eye bitten by our much larger dog (Maremma Sheepdog). We were shocked to find her eye ball hanging out of her face just above her cheek. We rushed her to the vet who said the eye had been punctured. He looked for other injuries and found none. She wasn’t even in shock. She then went under and had the eye removed. We were given some pain relievers and some other medicines to help with the pain and recovery. It has been about six hours after her surgery and she is playing and all…not even noticing the missing eye. I just can’t stop feeling bad for her, as she no longer has her eye. Everyday I take her for a walk on the oval where she would go spastic and run around me. Would she still be able to do that? I wonder how much this will affect her? She has just turned one. So she is still a puppy to me. Also, will the fur around her surgery area grow back? How long will it take for her to fully recover? When will the oozing stop (the vet said this is normal)?

your dog will be fine i have a 1 eyed shih tzu called jasper his eye burst and the vet could not save it so removed it
that was a year ago and he now 100% ok it took 3 months for the hair to grow back and there is nothing he cant do now that he did before
if she ran around before she will be able to do so if she played with you she will still be able to
A dog having 1 eye is not a disability my dog is proof of that

The fluid draining should dry up after 10 days but with my dog his socket swelled with fluid and had to have it drained which my vet said was common
